Foods that help you fight thyroid:
Salt :
Your thyroid needs iodine to work well. Make sure you are using iodised table salt at home.
Leafy Greens:
Spinach, lettuce, and other examples are great sources of magnesium, an all-star mineral that plays a huge role in your body processes.
Nuts:
Cashews, almonds and pumpkin seeds are excellent sources of iron and selenium. Just few per day gives you the selenium you need.
SeaFood:
Deep sea fishes are great sources of iodine. Approach with caution:
Kale:
Its a superfood that you should not miss. It is a mild goitrogen like cabbage. But when you are getting enough iodine in diet, you should not worry.
Soy:
In rare cases some chemicals found in soy can hurt the thyroids ability to make hormones. But only if you do not get enough iodine. If your iodine levels are ok, you don’t need to worry about soy.
Organ meats:
If you eat organ meats like kidneys, heart, liver etc.. you might get a lot of lipoid acid. But if you get too much then it could mess up your thyroid works.
Gluten:
Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. Unless you have been diagnosed with celiac disease, it won’t affect your thyroid.
Thyroid medication:
- The food you eat can affect your thyroid medicines. They can slow down or obstruct the absorption of your medicine.
- Always take medicines on empty stomach and check with your doctor to understand what foods to avoid while on medication.
